Down Zero Shooting Sports was founded in 2015 and serves the western Kentucky region. Owner Scott Whitmer sought to bring quality firearms instruction to Muhlenberg County and surrounding areas. To do this, he spent hundreds of hours earning certifications and learning from top competitive and defense instructors.
During his 11-year career in law enforcement, Scott experienced the frustration of trying to find advanced instruction and accessible shooting ranges in his hometown. He knew proper training was key in maintaining and improving his skillset, but that training simply was not available without extensive travel. Scott left his career to pursue the training needed to provide high-level firearms instruction in Muhlenberg County, and he is now also a certified EMT pursuing licensure as a paramedic.
About the Range
Down Zero Shooting Sports is a private range. Instructors receive full access to our 100-yard outdoor pistol and rifle range located in Central City, Kentucky off Cleaton Cutoff Road. The range will be opened for the dates and times of your class, and target stands, rifle rests, barrels, barricades, and a covered shooting deck are provided.
We offer an array of firearms courses, from basic firearms safety to more advanced defensive classes. The range frequently hosts well-known instructors from across the country to expand the types of courses offered. All courses are designed to take advantage of students’ existing knowledge and build on that foundation to create well-rounded, safe marksmen who are able to defend themselves if the need arises.
